Home Energy Savings Advice P.L. is based in Newcastle, New South Wales and services the Hunter Valley and mid North Coast.

The Directors are :

Ian Wilcox

Ian recently took a leading role in Climate Action Newcastle’s (CAN) bulk solar program – Newcastle’s Going Solar. This program achieved around 550 solar photovoltaic systems installed for less than half of the prevailing retail price and created a solar boom in the Hunter.

Ian is a member of CAN and is instrumental in the "CAN in Schools" program which involves energy auditing of local schools. He is also a registered Real Estate Valuer and is excited by the opportunities the Green Loans program will create – both in increasing the value of sustainable properties and reducing their running costs.

Russell Wilcox

Russell was a real estate agent in a previous life, servicing an area of the mid north coast for 17 years. As such he has experienced a great diversity of property styles and values, from humble beachside holiday cottages to rambling estates.

As part of that vocation there was often a need to review a property with a fresh set of eyes and make suggestions to the property owner as to how they might make it more attractive and valuable to a prospective purchaser.

There are distinct parallels in the Green Loans program, in that people who have lived in a property for a period of time can become “used to it”. By helping householders actively seek out opportunities for energy efficiency, we can all avoid spending more on utilities than we need to AND make a positive contribution to greenhouse gas reductions.

Both Ian and Russell have been advocates for minimising energy consumption in daily life for many years. They prefer to cycle whenever practical, use sail power for boating recreation, engage solar passive principles for housing comfort and practice sustainable living concepts.

Our Mission

Our objective is to assist you, as a householder, to identify areas in which savings can be achieved. These may be very simple strategies like using draught stoppers right through to full-on renovations and solar power generation.

If you are overwhelmed by the complexity and variations in the rebates being offered by the various levels (layers?) of government, we will endeavour to steer you in the right direction.
